Sometimes the best Little Rock weekends involve leaving Little Rock. The beauty of Central Arkansas is how quickly you can escape to mountains, hot springs, charming small towns, and stunning state parks. Here are our favorite road trips — all under two hours from downtown.
Hot Springs National Park (55 min) — America's oldest national reserve delivers thermal baths, Bathhouse Row architecture, and a quirky downtown packed with shops, galleries, and restaurants. Soak in the Quapaw Baths, hike the Hot Springs Mountain Tower trail, then grab craft beer at Superior Bathhouse Brewery — the only brewery inside a national park.
Petit Jean State Park (1 hr 15 min) — Cedar Falls is the headliner, but the entire park is gorgeous. The 7-mile network of trails includes canyon overlooks, rock formations, and forest walks. Mather Lodge offers comfortable overnight stays with dining and incredible valley views.
Blanchard Springs Caverns (2 hrs) — One of America's most beautiful show caves sits in the Ozark National Forest. The Dripstone Trail is accessible to most visitors, while the Discovery Trail goes deeper for more adventurous cavers. The nearby recreation area has swimming and camping.
Conway & Toad Suck (30 min) — A quick trip to this college town offers surprisingly good food, local shops, and access to Lake Conway. The annual Toad Suck Daze festival (May) draws thousands with live music, carnival rides, and legendary toad races.
Mount Magazine State Park (1 hr 45 min) — Arkansas's highest point at 2,753 feet. The lodge is stunning, the hang gliding is world-class, and the Cameron Bluff trail delivers views you'd expect from Colorado, not Arkansas. Perfect for a one-night getaway.
Crater of Diamonds State Park (1 hr 40 min) — The only diamond-producing site in the world open to the public. Visitors find diamonds regularly — you keep what you find. Even if you don't strike it rich, it's a unique Arkansas experience.
